Al's Per Magica Ad Astra blog.
When you retire you have the time to enjoy.
Fortunately, I can enjoy Chiang Mai, Thailand and many other places.
I hope the blog is entertaining and useful.
Even funny (sometimes)π

It's a sort of odd week, here in Chiang Mai it seems to be a sort of slow news time at least locally.
Most things I see are smog related and the efforts to ensure that fires are tackled quickly if possible.
Well at least the recent rain helped, as you may have seen the AQI station closest to me yesterday was reading a reduced hazard.
Its still at the levels where I chose to wear a mask to try and prevent at least some of the stuff entering my lungs when I go for a cycle or a walk and yesterday, I chose to stroll.
Not surprisingly the stroll included sticky rice and the production of, yet another Relive π.
You will have seen Wat Phothi Mongkon on the #Relive and the mural of the fate of fallen women. If you missed it here is a snap again.
For myself, I confess to never having seen any fallen women...It isn't just the fallen women that are worth a snap, I happen to like the wat as well and here is a snap of that but as it was a smoggy gray sky, I have added a bit of colour to it π
You may have also noticed that commented that I liked flowers, so I tried to blot a few together as a slideshow. I needed to Google this to see how to do it and they said make it in Google photos then past it in as code. I made it as an animation but I didn't like it so I made it as a movie in Google photos, but I have no idea how to get the thing into Blogger without some huge spaces happening. Bugger! And there was a comment about an orange car... If you are wondering why I comment on that...
And the stroll was soon over from there. In international news, the Americans had a drone downed by the Russians over the Black Sea, I have no idea how that happened as the Americans are not fighting in the Ukrainian Russian conflict, or so they say. And China is not happy that America, Australia and the US have formed a defence pact called Aukus. My that slips off the tongue doesn't it. It's OK to have all this posturing against China but let's face it, China rules the world right now simply because it owns the supply chain, and the west would be buggered without its manufacturing. Eggs in one basket and an overseas state with different political views to ones own surely cannot make. good business sense. Anyway time for my last brew and a stroll.Coffee
Hello and here is just a little ramble on stuff that sparked a little interest in me over the last few days and as I want to bung a few photos on, the blog has to be a better format than Facebook which will get a copy anywayπ Lets start about mentioning the sunset viewed down Thapae road on Thursday, and I put one you may recall, on Facebook but, I missed the better shot as I was in desperate need of a P. Here is the one I managed to show; And here is the better one taken by Charlie; And since I am on the subject of photos we were talking about the rather good capability to focus on near object with the phones camera so just to show you what I am talking of I snapped a shot of the rice included with my meal that night. I bet that has you licking your lips and thinking chicken vindaloo and a pint of lagerπ The other thing that I wondered was down to an event on a little walk yesterday lunchtime. The walk was just to the supermarket and as I approached the checkout I bashed ...
Saturday morning and after one or two coffees π it was to meet the family then to the chosen restaurant for lunch. Then a drive to Pattaya that included 2 illegal moves and 2 motorway anchor on stops π² Not related. Pattaya and a beer at Bodega, A bar to watch the Clarets not playing And onwards for more football with Paul And a huge breakfast dinner. And so it goes.
Late September 2024 and the floods that have blighted many areas of Thailand came to the city of Chiang Mai. The city has been hit quite badly with the river Ping exceeding its banks in many placed resulting in floods largely in the east of the city. Further away from the river the areas are very much less effected but there is still flooding due largely to the pooling of rainfall. After days of not being able to walk the routes I wanted to, I purchased a pair of wellies and set out to check the water levels on the roads. I had intended to maybe even see the city area but the wellies were not that comfortable and I felt it prudent to take a shorter route. This is that shorter route, by no means a badly flooded as the area where the river has overspilled but causing disruption and some hardship even in these less effected areas.
