Al's Per Magica Ad Astra blog.
When you retire you have the time to enjoy.
Fortunately, I can enjoy Chiang Mai, Thailand and many other places.
I hope the blog is entertaining and useful.

Well not yet.
Hello all hope you are well.
As you may gather, I am still confined to barracks with the sciatic problem that is plaguing me.
I've finished the steroids now but still have a week worth of anti inflammatories that I am hoping with all my heart will do the job.
Interesting init? I wondered about rather than saying "hoping with all my heart" it would have been a lot simpler, and perhaps more natural for me to say "praying". It is such a well used expression.
But I can't really put it into true context. Never mind.
As I am sat on my arse turning back into a blob, I thought I would add a little composite snap of mine for your entertainment.
Mind you at this time of year being outside is not quite a nice as it should be in the wonderful part of the world.
I am referring to, of course the annual blight that effects us at this time, pollution 😡
Here is a screen shot from #iqair.com from this morning:
Not good. As you can see, they estimate that this blight kills 7,000,000 per year!
I assume that means people and, if the estimate is anywhere accurate, then it is a far more dangerous health factor than Covid19 or so it seems where the WHO estimate the TOTAL Covid related fatalities over the whole period of the outbreak to be les than 7,000,000, see below.
Interesting data on something that is still so widely ongoing.
But I guess whilst the trend is to believe electric cars are the answer to everything, this will continue.
Meanwhile the FA cup games were played with League 2 Grimsby Town knocking out Premier League Southampton. A League 2 team in the quarter finals, fantastic.
There are 3 Championship teams still left in the cup as well, Sheffield United dispatching Spurs.
Their reward? A home leg against fellow Championship side Blackburn Rovers, come on Blades that's what I say.
And the Clarets.
The Clarets made it into the quarter finals beating Fleetwood Town and will visit the Etihad stadium where Claret's manager Vincent Kompany will take on his old side Manchester City.
How the draw comes out!
I will close this bit of a blog with the news from the BBC "Amazon jungle: Man survives 31 days by eating worms."
Maintaining the footballing theme here is another famous worm eater.
Saturday morning and after one or two coffees 😋 it was to meet the family then to the chosen restaurant for lunch. Then a drive to Pattaya that included 2 illegal moves and 2 motorway anchor on stops 😲 Not related. Pattaya and a beer at Bodega, A bar to watch the Clarets not playing And onwards for more football with Paul And a huge breakfast dinner. And so it goes.
Monday 21 April 2025. Easter Monday. A huge day. Part 1 The Burg needed to stretch its horizons and despite being only partly able, being under the weather due to this man-flu that has gripped my nose, throat, head and lungs, I needed a walk. Not too strenuous a walk mind you, one that is basically flat jet still so very interesting and scenic. Fortunately during our time together as friends in Chiang Mai, of the many many areas I grew to know and love with his guidance my friend Bill Carroll Had, in the past, introduced me to a place I felt would fit the bill. Huai Mae On. So I saddled up and sped down the road... (Come on which of you started to hum "funky moped", ok here it is to put you out of your misery) Once there and parked up I set out, in the heat and as I do, I took a snap or two; At the start; And the fishermen art the other end of the dam; After the floods the river has been cleared and the road improved; My objective, the waterfall; Rice field on the way back; B...
As some of you may know, I have just returned from Japan. I bet you can imagine how many snaps and videos I have taken which, as well as the trip to the Philippines in late February My step daughters graduation And my sisters visit Has meant that very few videos, blogs and vlogs have been done for more than a month. Not only that, it is Songkran this weekend so there will be an even bigger backlog by next week. All this has led me to try and knock together at least a little taster of the Japan trip. It's done hastily but, it is done. Here we go.
